Concentration Area: Mother and Child Health

Description: Given the need to transcend the biologicist and medicalizing model of care during pregnancy, delivery and the puerperium period and the need to transform practices in health services, the objective is to qualify professionals of Nursing and other health professionals for the development and implementation of knowledge, technologies, and practices for a comprehensive mother and child health care. The course seeks to foster the implementation of emancipatory practices that ensure the role of women in the pregnancy-puerperal period and a more humanized care for women, newborns and children up to 24 months of age, from the perspective of systemic relationships and interactions. We also value the promotion of the production and implementation of technologies (processes and products) applicable to the multiprofessional workspace, in order to ensure good practices and the consolidation of the comprehensive care network for mother, newborn and child health.

Lines of research

Integral Care for Maternal, Newborn and Childhealth

This line of research approaches topics related to knowledge production, technologies and practices that contribute toamplify and qualify the attention to gestation, childbirth, puerperium, birthand child development until the completion of 24 months of life. Such line also proposes the development of educational, proactive, and emancipatory actions through new intervention approaches and technologies that incorporate comprehensive nesstowards women’s health care and their protagonism throughout childbirth and puerperium time periods. This line of research also seeks to amplify and qualify nursing and health practices that promote integral care for maternal, newborn and child health in which sensitive attention is the main focus, associated to the biological, social, emotional, economic and cultural needs.

Organization and Management of Maternal andChild Health Care Network

This line of research approaches knowledge production, technologies and practices that contribute to the structuration, organization, qualification and consolidation of integral attention network tomaternal and child health care, in terms of guaranteeing access with acceptanceand effectiveness, in accordance to national and international policies and programs. This line of research develops new assistant models and political management processes through intersectional and interdisciplinary pathways, focusing on organizational interconnections of the Health System. The research also foments entrepreneurial actions within Nursing and Health towards transcending a fragmented and linear vision of the Organization and Management of Maternal and Child Health Care Network.
